Jackalope Tales

  • YouTube Live Stream (map)

Transatlantic folk quartet Jackalope Tales bring their authentic sound of alt.country and acoustic americana from South Yorkshire and Derbyshire by way of Texas and Alaska.

Songwriter and vocalist Linda Lee Welch was born and raised in the USA and is a prize-winning poet and published novelist. Her songs tell stories of love, loss and survival with honesty, wit and drama, often sounding as if they have been hanging in the ether for decades.

Distinctive vocals, fine musicianship and crafted songs of humour and pathos. Let me tell you, Jackalope Tales are one of Sheffield's hidden treasures (Harry Welburn, 'Steel and Wire')

Linda Lee has exactly the right voice for it: lived in and with an edge to it when needed, the guitar and mandolin fills lending it some of that Tony Joe White swamp rock sound. Well worth a listen or three. (Stirrings Magazine)

The band blend strong instrumentation - banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitars - with their signature vocal harmonies and augment their original material with covers of songs by writers including Hoyt Axton, Warren Zevon and Gillian Welch (no relation!).
